Photo Transfers

Photo transfers can be created on almost any surface that will accept acrylic paint. I prefer old, repurposed wood. I use laser copies of my photographs, acrylic gel medium, wooden boards, and sometimes acrylic paint or Inktense pencils. Almost any image can be used, but high contrast is preferable. The wood surface is coated with gel medium, and the photocopy is applied face down - with the ink facing the surface. Pressure is applied to get rid of wrinkles and air pockets. After everything has dried, the paper is removed by spraying water on the surface and rubbing the paper with wash cloths, sponges, or fingers. I like the imperfect, aged look.
